"Swingin' in the Spring" with the Blue Heaven Swing Sextet

The Sunday Afternoon Concert Series welcomes the Art Lillard Blue Heaven Swing Sextet and "Swingin' in the Spring!"

This energetic, tasteful blues and swing ensemble has been playing in the greater New York area since 1998.  Consisting of trumpet, trombone, tenor sax, piano, bass, and drums.  Blue Heaven features top quality, seasoned, professional musicians who together create a seamless ensemble and make the music sparkle.

Led by drummer and composer Art Lillard, Blue Heaven plays a variety of swing standards and not-so-standard swing and blues numbers, written by such luminaries as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton, and Lester Young.  The band's repertoire also includes original tunes by Lillard and some of his musical colleagues.

Blue Heaven has appeared nationally and internationally as the swing band on the CBS television daytime soap opera, "Guiding Light."  They are enjoyed by swing dancers as well as listening audiences.  Their latest releases on the Soul Kid Jazz record label are Eternal Swing and Deep Art.
