Event Details

All are welcome to attend "Building Bridges" - a Jewish & African American Partnership - for the documentary film screening of "Rosenwald" and a discussion afterwards. "Rosenwald" is the remarkable story of a Jewish partnership with African American Communities.  It is about businessman and philanthropist Julius Rosenwald who joined forces with Booker T. Washington and African American Communities in the segregationist Jim Crow South to build more than 5,000 schools.  Inspired by the Jewish doctrine of "Tikkun Olam" (repairing the world), and a deep concern over racial inequality in America, the Rosenwald Fund supported major African American artists and intellectuals like Marian Anderson, W.E.B. DuBois, Langston Hughes and many more. This unprecedented historical partnership impacted American culture for generations and still resonates today.

A panel discussion will take place following the film screening and will be moderated by Ossining Village Historian Joyce Sharrock-Cole, and panelists Rabbi Dina Rosenberg of CSI in Briarcliff and Ossining NAACP President Althema Goodson.

Pre-registration is suggested; please register here on our online calendar.  Walk-ins are welcome as well.

This program is being sponsored by Bethany Arts Center, CSI of Briarcliff Manor, Ossining NAACP, the Ossining Public Library, and Journeys to Change.
