Do you love local history?  Then join us--and bring your friends and family too--for this informative presentation on Lyndhurst Castle in Tarrytown.

This presentation will be led by Ed Peduzzi, an educator, tour guide and world traveler with decades of experience teaching and learning. Ed taught Spanish at Edgemont High School in Scarsdale, NY for 32 years. He has led group tours of Tuscany for 35 years.  Ed is the senior docent at the Lyndhurst estate, now in his 24th year, and he conducts tours in Spanish as well as English. Traveling, especially cruising, is Ed’s passion. In 1984 and in 1990, he spent a year at sea as a critical instructor at a floating university that circled the globe. Ed is also an active volunteer, spending a lot of time helping seniors in his native White Plains, NY.

Ed will guide participants through a virtual tour of the 19th century mansion, describing the lives of the three families who called Lyndhurst home from decades before the civil war through the Gilded Age until 1961. He will highlight the many ways that life at Lyndhurst reflected historic events and trends during a critical period in the development of the United States. Ed will also explain the unique construction process of the mansion, which is regarded as the finest example of an American home of the Gothic Revival style, as well as the historic landscape and its connections to the Romanticism aesthetic that crossed art forms in the 1800s. The unique architectural details and fine examples of European art will be highlighted, including paintings by Courbet, Corot and Bouguereau. Ed will take participants on a trip back in time.

Pre-registration is not required to attend.
