The Sunday Afternoon Concert Series continues with Frederick Katzenberg on Oboe and Will Rich on piano.

This program will feature many of the tone colors of the oboe, that portray different moods.  The concert opens with the mellow Piece V, of Cesar Franck.  The late romantic Nielsen Fantasiestucke bring mystery and humor.  The Adagio non troppo from the Mozart Oboe Concerto takes the instrument to a sublime place.  The haunting Poulenc Elegie, from the Sonata for Oboe and Piano was written in memory of Prokofiev. The Albeniz Tango brings some dancing lightness.  A piano solo will be followed by Four Oboe Melodies from "Les Indes Galantes."  These baroque pieces effectively use practices of the period and are always delightful.  The program ends with the Donizetti Oboe Sonata, with its popular melodies and rhythms, in an operatic style.

Mr. Frederick Katzenberg's oboe solo concert career is based in eastern New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, where he has performed in concert halls, theatres, museums, churches, and libraries. He also has toured western New York and Washington D.C., and given recitals at William Paterson University, Ramapo College of New Jersey, and the Moravian College Music Institute. In New Jersey, his recitals have been broadcast on television and on the internet. Mr. Katzenberg received a NYSCA grant to present a concert series in Putnam County. In 2009, he premiered in New York and New Jersey, the Dace Aperans Juravas (Sea Songs). Earlier, he premiered in the same two states, the Walter Skolnik Oboe Sonatina.
