Join the Ossining Public Library for a final classic film screening from the Master of Suspense, Alfred Hitchock, in a beautiful new 4K restoration. Author and film critic Marshall Fine will introduce the film and hold a Q+A session after the screening.
Vertigo (1958) is a dark and moody masterpiece of a psychological thriller shot in brilliant Technicolor. A former San Francisco police detective (James Stewart) is convalescing in the aftermath of a traumatic incident that left him with a debilitating fear of heights, assisted by his friend and former companion (Barbara Bel Geddes). Reluctantly agreeing to investigate the disappearance of a friend's wife (Kim Novak), he encounters a web of mystery that leads into the realm of the supernatural and threatens to upend his fragile sanity. The film is a monument of technical and artistic excellence, featuring dramatic on location photography, pioneering cinematic techniques, and a beautifully haunting score by longtime Hitchcock collaborator Bernard Herrmann.
The Bonnie Katz Film Series is an annual event honoring our OPL colleague Bonnie Katz (1952-2021). A librarian and passionate film buff (and a great fan of Hitchcock), Bonnie had a positive spirit and outgoing personality, and was a respected member of our profession and the Ossining community.
